Customers often ask me “Which hook is the best?” My answer: it’s individual, and popularity varies around the world. I also see farms using just one hook without knowing about other options. Such a pity! I’d like everyone to be able to choose what suits them best, so I’ve put together a complete overview of every option, with photos.

We’ll start from the most basic, and finish with a secret tip.

Standard Hook (included in every BAT1 package)

If you already use the BAT1, you know this classic. If you’ve only heard good things about BAT1 or need another unit, hit the link, fill in the enquiry form, and we’ll confirm the price and ship anywhere in the world.

Advanced Hook (a.k.a. Canadian Hook)

The bird’s own weight tightens the rubber loops around its legs. After weighing, you simply pull the bird out and the hook loosens automatically.

Wing Clamp

Legs-free hanging. Rubber-cushioned “scissors” safely grip the wings; after weighing you release the clamp and the bird slips back onto the litter.

Cone Hook

A special design that lets you hang the bird by its body. After weighing, pull in the opposite direction or tilt the hook and the bird slips out on its own.

Hanging Plate

For very small chicks. Place the bird on the little tray, weigh, remove, done.

The secret tip

Many farms simply use a piece of string with a short stick on the end. You can make this hook anytime for almost no cost, and with a little practice it’s a very efficient tool for birds from roughly 0.5 kg and up.
